Ali Sami Farooq : Top Destinations Skiing On A Budget In Europe

For a great winter holiday, why not consider a skiing holiday in one of the best destinations in Europe? Most mountain resorts offer beautiful scenery and superb apres ski fun. European ski resorts are notoriously expensive, and cheap snow holidays are also hard to find. Rather than opting for the conventional package, try booking your vacation yourself. Here are following tips shared by Ali Sami Farooq to help you get started:

1. Search for an "alternative" ski resort - When looking for a ski holiday in Europe, most people consider only the French Alps and Austria. You may or may not know that you can also spend a great skiing holiday in many other European countries such as Poland, Slovakia, Bosnia and Scotland. These alternative destinations are worth considering for your vacation as they will almost certainly offer you better deals.

2. Think outside the box: you'll have to think sideways if you intend to save during your ski vacation. Try using the internet but whatever you do doesn't go for businesses on the front pages of your search engine. Most likely they will be the main tour operators and it is better to avoid them. Instead, look for lists of independent housing and listings such as holiday rentals. Once you find a list of vacation rental homes, find the properties that are located in the ski resort of your choice, and of course, the closer they are to the center of the resort, the better. If you book through sites like this you could potentially save hundreds of them.

3. Rethink your transportation - Many vacationers believe the only way to get to the ski resort is to fly and then take a long bus ride. If you already live in Europe, be sure to consider train travel as well. The Eurostar Ski Train and standard Eurostar are options to consider. Once in a European city, you can always take the bus or even share a taxi if there is a larger group of you (this can actually be cheaper than buying a bus ticket each).

- Another tip to save money is to travel in non-peak and anti-social periods. Travel very early or late is often cheaper than more conventional travel times, but be sure to discover check-in times at your destination, otherwise you might wait a long wait before unloading your equipment! You may also want to stay at a hotel near the departure station or airport the night before the trip, to ease the pain of that train or early flight.
